St. Anthony North Dakota On 9/28/16, EnergyTransfer resumed work on the pipeline within the 20 mile area covered by the temporary restraining order. When the people from Standing Rock who are protecting the land started a prayer vigil at the site, they were surrounded by private security and state troopers, armored vehicles, shotguns, assault rifles, snipers, helicopters, and tear gas. A device jammed electronic communication, so that cell phones and computers didn’t work. A helicopter sprayed an unknown substance on the protectors, and 21 people were arrested. The emergency restraining order from Federal District Court in DC says no work should be done within 20 miles of Lake Oahe until the next hearing, Oct. 5th. St. Anthony is 7-8 miles from Lake Oahe. The area is also sacred ground. Even though the pipeline company bought this piece of land a few days ago, it is still covered by a Federal law passed in 1954 that protects Native American sacred ground and burial grounds. The Governer of North Dakota owns stock in Energy Transfer, so it’s not surprising that state troopers participated in this fascist response! http://bsnorrell.blogspot.com/2016/09/standing-rock-breaking-news-surrounded.html |
