CIVIL WAR CONTINUES IN THE CONGO

Fierce fighting between government troops and rebel forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo has caused a humanitarian catastrophe. More than 250,000 people have been forced to leave their homes, and hunger and disease are of major concern for the refugees.

This tragic crisis is a continuation of years of war and strife in central Africa. 5.4 million people have died since 1998. As usual, news coverage of this part of the world among major western outlets is severely lacking.
